Willigence Noel Found Guilty in Royal Jewels Robbery Trial
In a landmark verdict, Willigence Noel was found guilty in the trial for the November 18, 2020 robbery of Royal Jewels on Leeward Highway, Providenciales. The trial, which commenced on January 22, 2024, concluded on April 18, 2024, with Noel convicted on multiple charges by a reduced number of jurors.
The prosecution’s case centered on compelling evidence, including Noel’s DNA blood sample found in the stolen vehicle used during the robbery. Although not presented as evidence, it was suggested that police engaged in a high-speed chase and fired at the vehicle carrying the robbers.
Medical evidence further supported the prosecution’s case, indicating that Noel sought treatment for gunshot injuries shortly after the robbery. Additionally, jewelry and spent shells were discovered in the stolen vehicle, reinforcing Noel’s involvement in the crime.
Despite challenges from Senior Defense Human Rights Attorney Sheena Mair regarding the admissibility of DNA evidence, the trial judge, Justice Tanya Lobban-Jackson, upheld its relevance. Mair expressed intentions to appeal the verdict following Noel’s sentencing scheduled for May 9.
Noel faces charges of robbery, using a firearm to cause fear, and riding in a stolen vehicle. He has been remanded to prison pending sentencing.
