Turks & Caicos Border Security Team stops 31 Illegals off North Caicos
Thirty-one (31) irregular migrants were apprehended following an attempt to unlawfully enter the Turks and Caicos Islands, intercepted in a coordinated effort involving multiple agencies.
At approximately 11:50 a.m. today (March 8th), officers from the RTCIPF Marine Branch, TCI Regiment, and the Fisheries Maritime Resource Management unit intercepted a vessel carrying TWENTY-TWO (22) males and NINE (9) females.
During routine patrols, the officers observed and intercepted a 25ft Grey Go Fast vessel equipped with two Yamaha engines outside Muddy Point, North Caicos.
The irregular migrants were transferred to the Immigration Task Force for further processing.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Specialist Tactical Operation) Mat Newton praised the swift and decisive action taken by the officers and partners involved in intercepting the illegal vessel.
“Their vigilance and commitment to enforcing maritime laws once again demonstrate the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force’s dedication to safeguarding our borders,” he stated.
Illegal maritime entry poses significant risks to our communities, and the interception of this vessel underscores our resolve to combat criminal activities at sea.
“I extend my gratitude to the officers participating in this operation for their professionalism, bravery, and resolve in confronting danger,” Newton added.
“We will persist in identifying, disrupting, and prosecuting those engaged in illegal maritime activities and those aiding them. Through collaborative efforts with our law enforcement and marine agency partners, we will strive to protect our waters and uphold the interests of the TCI.”
Newton urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious maritime activities to the authorities, advising them to be wary of individuals filling large fuel containers, secure private boats, and remain observant of suspicious individuals around marinas.
“Together, we can ensure a safer TCI, both on land and at sea,” he concluded.
