In the first instance, on April 22nd, authorities received a distress call reporting two males who had departed Providenciales for a fishing expedition at 7 a.m. aboard a red and black boat. With their expected return time of 3 p.m. having elapsed without their arrival, concern grew, prompting the initiation of a search operation.

Marine Unit officers conducted a thorough search south of Providenciales and located the vessel off the Bluff area. The occupants, experiencing engine troubles, were safely escorted back to South Dock, both reportedly in good health.

Just two days prior, on April 20, the Police Control Room received a similar report concerning two males who had set off from North Caicos on a white 19-foot Proline boat for a fishing venture and failed to return. Last seen near the ship channel off South Caicos, their absence sparked a concerted search effort involving the Marine Unit and local fishermen.

Despite encountering challenges due to lighting conditions, search operations resumed on April 21st. Fortuitously, the missing vessel was sighted in the vicinity of the Ship Channel by individuals aboard a Caicos Express Airways plane. Upon rescue, the victims, exhibiting signs of dehydration, were towed back to North Caicos by familiar individuals.

Both incidents underscore the unpredictable nature of maritime endeavors and emphasize the criticality of preparedness and vigilance among boaters navigating the waters of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
