The Women’s Premier League returned with an electrifying doubleheader on Friday, January 10, at the TCIFA Field, delivering high-scoring drama and intense competition.
Teachers WFC triumphed over Academy Eagles WFC with a commanding 5-2 victory, while Cheshire Hall WFC secured a thrilling 2-1 comeback win against SWA Sharks WFC.
Teachers WFC started the evening in style, racing to a 3-0 halftime lead and ultimately defeating Academy Eagles WFC 5-2. Sendia Marcel (#9) spearheaded the attack, scoring in the 8th and 45th minutes. Olivia Park (#26) added a clinical strike in the 32nd minute, and Yunelsis Beaz (#22) found the net in added time of the first half (35+2).
Edna Jeanty (#10) capped off the scoring for Teachers in the 52nd minute but later received a yellow card for dissent in the 61st minute. Rhyanna Stubbs (#15) was named Player of the Match for Teachers.
Academy Eagles WFC showed resilience in the second half. Amika Jackson (#10) led her team with two goals, scoring in the 40th minute and converting a penalty in the 60th. Her stellar performance earned her the Player of the Match title for Academy Eagles.
In the second game, Cheshire Hall WFC staged a remarkable second-half turnaround to edge SWA Sharks WFC 2-1. SWA Sharks took the lead early, with Victoria Modeste (#13) scoring in the 5th minute. Despite their solid start, they failed to maintain control, with Modeste still earning the Player of the Match award for her efforts. Brananry Delancy (#14) received a yellow card in the 43rd minute.
Cheshire Hall’s comeback began in the 69th minute with a goal from Laribel Belen (#15). Just two minutes later, Shekinah Smith (#4) netted the winner in the 70+1 minute, clinching Player of the Match honors for her team.
The evening’s matches showcased the league’s high-caliber talent and competitive spirit, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
