TeAnn Thomas has been appointed to the post of Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Transportation, Broadcasting, Energy and Utilities and Telecommunications Commission, the Office of the Deputy Governor announced.

Commenting on her appointment, Thomas stated: “It is with a deep sense of pride and gratitude that I assume the role of Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Transportation, Broadcasting, Energy and Utilities and Telecommunications Commission. It has been a career goal of mine to join the civil service as a way to give back to my country as a return on its investment in me. I am a strong believer that nothing happens before its time and I am honoured that I get to contribute in this capacity. I hope to make a valuable contribution to the advancement of the Ministry; to effect change and impact lives.”

She added: “It is not lost on me that to whom much is given, much is required. I am committed to doing my best in service of the Ministry, the Government and my beloved country. I believe my background in Economics, policy, innovation and project management affords me the opportunity to add a versatile perspective and bolster the senior management team. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Transportation, Broadcasting, Energy and Utilities and Telecommunications Commission has oversight for a wide range of departments which carries a heavy mandate. This undoubtedly has a level of complexity and its fair share of challenges. However, I embrace the opportunities that lie ahead to help the Ministry elevate, strengthen and revolutionize while upholding a standard of excellence and integrity.”

Deputy Governor and Head of the Public Service Her Excellency Anya Williams, in extending congratulatory remarks to Thomas, stated: “It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Ms. TeAnn Thomas on her appointment as the new Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Transportation, Broadcasting, Energy and Utilities and Telecommunications Commission and to welcome her to the Turks and Caicos Islands Public Service.”

“Having undergone a three part recruitment process which included a written question and answer application, an online senior leader psychometric test and in person interview chaired by the Governor and myself, Ms. Thomas arose as the top candidate in our recent Deputy Secretary recruitment program having demonstrated that she has the skills, knowledge and fortitude to take on the challenge in being appointed in one of largest ministries in government.This ministry has a wide range of responsibilities which we are certain that Ms. Thomas will be an asset in not only helping to manage, but also to transform, including energy and utilities. We look forward to working with her in her role and hope that she is as excited as we are about the prospects for future in the public service of these islands. Thomas, a former national scholar, holds: an Associate of Arts (AA) Degree in Business Administration from the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College; a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree with Distinction in Economics from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Canada and a Master of Development Economics (MDE) Degree from Dalhousie University in Canada.

She is a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) and is pursuing her Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Additionally, she is a member of the Women in Renewable Energy (WIRE) Network and currently a fellow at the RMI Energy Transition Academy.

She has spent over eight years in the electricity industry in the Turks and Caicos Islands working with Fortis TCI in the area of Business Development and Innovation and has experience in: energy resource planning; renewable energy; electric vehicle technology and analytics.

Economics is her learnt passion and she has extensive experience advising on strategic and business planning initiatives.
