Scheduled to take place in Providenciales from April 16th to 18th, 2024, and in Grand Turk from April 23rd to 25th, 2024, the training aims to equip all stakeholders involved in emergency shelter management with essential knowledge, skills, and resources to effectively manage shelters during crises.
The Shelter Management Program will encompass a range of topics, including:
- Understanding the TCI Disaster Management Framework
- Identifying disaster cycles, hazards, and vulnerabilities affecting the TCI
- Shelter administration, delineating roles and responsibilities of shelter managers
- Shelter operations, covering setup procedures and protocols
- Recordkeeping, team management, and best practices in shelter management
- Managing vulnerable populations within shelters
- Fire safety protocols and extinguishing procedures
- Radio communication protocols for effective coordination
Combining classroom sessions with simulation exercises, the training will provide participants with practical tools and hands-on experience to handle various emergency shelter scenarios.
Upon completion of the training, participants will receive certification and will be designated as Shelter Managers, poised to support emergency response efforts across the islands. The program is open to individuals from both governmental and non-governmental agencies, reflecting a collaborative approach to disaster preparedness and response.
