RTCIPF Urges Vigilance Amidst Rise in Armed Robberies

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force is issuing a stern warning to individuals to exercise vigilance, particularly while driving home, amidst a recent surge in armed robberies. Head of Crime, Safeguarding, and Public Protection Superintendent Dean Holden has emphasized the importance of remaining alert and taking necessary precautions to ensure personal safety.

Superintendent Holden stated, ‘In light of recent incidents in Providenciales, it is crucial to stay aware of your surroundings and take necessary precautions. If you suspect you are being followed, remain calm and drive to a well-lit, populated area or the nearest police station. Avoid stopping in isolated or poorly lit areas.’

He further advised, ‘Immediately dial 911 and, if possible, try to obtain a description of the vehicle following you and its license plate number. Personal safety should be the top priority.’

Assuring the public of the RTCIPF’s commitment to ensuring citizens’ safety and security, Superintendent Holden added, ‘We are actively monitoring the situation and are committed to safeguarding all citizens.’

The RTCIPF is currently investigating three armed robberies. The first incident occurred at Kid’s Park, Lower Bight, where a male victim was robbed of valuables and his vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered in Turtle Cove.

The second robbery took place in Kew Town, where a male victim was followed home and robbed by four armed men. A similar incident occurred in Five Cays, where a male was robbed by four armed masked men at his residence.

The RTCIPF urges anyone with information on these incidents to assist with the investigation. Citizens are encouraged to contact the nearest police station, dial 911, reach out to the Serious Crime Unit at 231-1842, or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 or the CrimeStoppers P3 app.
