RTCIPF Stands with Global Community on World Down Syndrome Day

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force joined hands with international, regional, and local communities to mark World Down Syndrome Day. Today, our officers proudly wore mismatched socks in solidarity with individuals with Down Syndrome, spreading positive messages of acceptance and celebration of diversity.

In the words of RTCIPF Training Manager, Mrs. Odessa Forbes, ‘Let’s embrace diversity, break barriers, and celebrate individuality. Let’s end stereotypes and create a world of acceptance where everyone belongs.’

Police Constable Sabrina Lightbourne from the Safeguarding and Public Protection Unit emphasized, ‘Everyone is special in their own way, my special power is that I’m different. It doesn’t matter what you think of me, but rather what I think of myself. Stop the stereotype.’

Echoing this sentiment, Police Constable Angelic Forester shared a powerful message in her poem ‘End The Stereotypes,’ highlighting the beauty and uniqueness of individuals with Down Syndrome and calling for an end to discrimination based on societal norms.

Together, let’s unite to #EndTheStereotypes and embrace diversity, ensuring that every individual is valued and respected.
