Provo Water Company Implements Measures to Alleviate Water Restrictions
As the end of water restrictions in Providenciales approaches, Provo Water Company (PWC) has initiated steps to ease the strain on water supply, providing residents with some relief. In an effort to increase water outflow, the company announced a reduction in water restrictions by an hour and a half, now running from 10 pm to 5:30 am instead of the previous 9 pm to 6 am schedule.
To address the underlying issues causing water shortages, PWC has introduced several new projects aimed at bolstering the water supply infrastructure. These projects include the repurposing of an Industrial Park tank, the installation of a new transmission main, and the upgrading of major fittings along the Leeward Highway.
The repurposing of the 1.5 million-gallon tank as an additional water source is expected to provide immediate relief to residents. Meanwhile, the installation of the new transmission main, spanning from June Plum to the Leeward Highway, aims to increase water flow into the network and enhance reliability. This project is slated for completion by the end of May 2024.
Furthermore, the upgrading of fittings along the Leeward Highway, scheduled for completion by September, will further augment water flow to the Suzie Turn Reservoir, improving water availability and quality for customers in western Providenciales.
PWC has been proactive in communicating with residents, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by water restrictions and disruptions in service. The company is also preparing for emergencies by utilizing the Industrial Park tank as a catchment area.
Robert Hall, Managing Director of PWC, emphasized the company’s commitment to addressing water challenges and ensuring reliable water services for customers. Despite the current issues stemming from rapid development, PWC is dedicated to resolving them swiftly, promising an end to the water supply problem in Providenciales.
