Matters from Chief Magistrate Hatmin’s Courtroom; including Woman arrested for wasting Police time

#TurksandCaicos, November 10, 2023 – We’ve previously reported and published on the following matters and here are some updates and results from the hearing on October 5, 2023.

ILLEGAL DRUG MATTER

The matter of two counts of improper importation of American High Grade Kush weed against the accused ABIMAEL MARTIÑEZ TAVARES, 24 of The Bight but born in Grand Turk concluded with a sentence of FIVE MONTHS imprisonment if he fails to pay a $7,000.00 fine by or before January 5, 2023.

PROHIBITED PERSON MATTER

Fifty year old EMILY PARKER, has already entered a guilty plea in the case against her; charged is the North Caicos woman with employing a prohibited person.  The matter had been adjourned to Tuesday October 17th, 2023. Her bail was extended.

WASTING POLICE TIME

Sentencing for the manager of Smart Supermarket, DENA LOUIS MORLEY, 37 is on November 16.  Morley plead guilty to the offense of Wasteful Employment of Police Time. Her bail was extended to that date.

She admitted guilt in making a report on May 1st 2023, which caused wasteful employment of police constable # 384 Krishanan Williams’ time by knowingly making a false report.  Morley had led police to believe she had information material to a police inquiry into a fatal accident investigation by claiming to be the driver.  It was determined that information was false, she was not the driver.

Magnetic Media can report that the charge against DENA LOUIS MORLEY is stemmed from the causing death by dangerous driving case we reported on ILLIRIQUE LAURENCIN; thought at the time to be the driver. He’s charged with causing the death of John Alexander Robinson, Jr on May 1, 2023.  Dena Morley allegedly permitted Laurencin to drive a Black Nissan Murano identification plate #20382, knowing the vehicle had no insurance, she is charged accordingly and for trying to cover it up as if she was the driver and not ILLIRIQUE LAURENCIN.

It is not clear what relation both defendants have to each other.
