Shaun Malcolm, Minister of Home Affairs, Religious Affairs, and Transportation, has emphasized the government’s unwavering dedication to creating a more inclusive society where women are not only participants but leaders in the nation’s development.
Malcolm gave the assurance in a March 8, 2025 broadcast message to mark the International Women’s Day(IWD) in the Turks and Caicos Islands. As the world came together to celebrate the contributions of women globally.
In his message, the Minister underscored the importance of empowering women, highlighting the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day: “Celebrating Women, Moving Forward and Togetherness to Inspire Change.” He took the opportunity to honour the contributions of women who have played pivotal roles in shaping the nation’s progress.
“As a government, we remain steadfast in our vision for a more inclusive and prosperous Turks and Caicos Islands.
“Through Strategy 2040, we are committed to ensuring that women are not just participants, but leaders in our nation’s development,” Minister Malcolm assured.
“Today we come together to honour, recognize, and celebrate the remarkable women of the Turks and Caicos Islands,” Minister Malcolm said. “Our nation has been shaped by extraordinary women—leaders, innovators, educators, entrepreneurs, and community builders who have not only paved the way for progress but have also inspired future generations to dream bigger and aim higher,” he added.
He acknowledged the invaluable role women have played, reflecting on the transformative impact of their contributions to the nation’s economy and society.
“These contributions have strengthened our communities, enriched our economy, and transformed our society,” he stated. Today we stand on the foundation they have built with a renewed commitment to advancing gender equality and empowering women at every level.”
The Minister highlighted that the government’s vision for the future goes beyond just recognition. He emphasized that women’s leadership and participation are central to the nation’s continued growth. “Through Strategy 2040, we are committed to ensuring that women are not just participants, but leaders in our nation’s development,” he affirmed.
Minister Malcolm also celebrated the strides women have made in traditionally male-dominated fields. “We celebrate the rising number of young women pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We commend those who continue to break barriers and redefine success across all sectors.”
However, the Minister was quick to remind the public that the journey toward gender equality is far from complete. He reiterated the government’s commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women stating: “On this National Women’s Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to equality, empowerment, and excellence.
“True progress requires us to move forward together to uplift, support, and champion the voices of women and girls in every community,” he emphasized. “It is through unity and collective effort that we will inspire lasting change and build a future where every woman has the opportunity to strive.”
The message also carried a personal tribute to the women who have contributed to building the nation. “Let us celebrate the achievements of our women, acknowledge their valuable contributions, and work together to ensure that the next generation inherits a society where gender equality is not just an aspiration, but a reality,” he stated.
Closing his message, Minister Malcolm expressed deep appreciation and admiration for the women of the Turks and Caicos Islands. “To all the incredible women of these Turks and Caicos Islands, today and every day we celebrate you,” he concluded. “Happy National Women’s Day.”
