First-time Member of Parliament Willin Belliard has expressed satisfaction with the historic achievement of being voted into Parliament following the general elections on February 7, 2025, after previously serving as a Governor-appointed member of the House.
Belliard, an At Large representative of the Progressive National Party (PNP), delivered a heartfelt and inspiring speech in Parliament on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
A former police officer and an attorney-at-law, Belliard who is of Dominican Republic descent, spoke with gratitude, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility towards his constituents and the islands as a whole. Belliard’s speech took a personal turn as he expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of Turks and Caicos Islands.
“It is an honour and a privilege to have been elected as a member of parliament for the Turks and Caicos Islands,” he said. “A great privilege. First and foremost, I give all the glory and honor to God for without his grace, none of this would be possible. He guided my steps, strengthened me through every challenge and blessed me with the incredible opportunity to serve,” he said.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my family, my mother, my wife, my brothers, and my children for their continued encouragement, unwavering support and sacrifices. This journey has not been mine alone. It has been ours. And I’m forever thankful for their love and strength.”
The elected member went on to thank the residents of the Turks and Caicos Islands for their support during the election. He also took a moment to express his appreciation for the leadership within his party.
“I want to especially thank the people of Salt Cay, Grand Turk, South Caicos, Middle Caicos, North Caicos, and Providenciales for their vote and support, Mr. Speaker,” he stated.
“I want to extend my profound appreciation to the Honorable Premier, the leadership of the Progressive National Party for the opportunity to be one of their candidates. Their confidence in me, their guidance, and the unwavering commitment to these islands have made this moment possible,” he said.
He spoke fondly of being part of the PNP movement, expressing his commitment to the party’s goals of fostering progress and prosperity.
“I am honored to be a part of this great movement, this great party to continue walking to build a stronger, more prosperous Turks and Caicos Islands,” he declared. “I am deeply humbled by the trust placed in me. I am committed to serving with integrity, dedication, and unwavering focus on the well-being of our people. The road ahead is one of hard work and collaboration, and I stand ready to represent all the people of these islands.”
Looking forward to his tenure, Belliard underscored his belief in the importance of unity among the people of Turks and Caicos Islands.
“This moment is a testament to our collective belief in unity and a sheer vision for a better future. It is evidence that when we come together, regardless of where you were born, regardless of your background, you can help to build a better Turks and Caicos Islands that works for everyone,” he added.
He also outlined the issues he intended to focus on during his time in office.
“I’m deeply grateful for the trust in me. Now the real work begins, and I’m committed to contributing to the solutions that this great party will bring about to tackle the issues that matter most. Crime, internal security, border security, housing, economic opportunity, and a stronger, more united Turks and Caicos Islands.”
Belliard extended his gratitude to both his supporters and those who did not vote for him, reiterating his commitment to serving everyone.
In his closing remarks, Belliard called for unity and collective effort to move the islands forward. “Let us move forward together, not as separate group, but as one people, proud, determined, and ready to shape a brighter future for the Turks and Caicos Islands,” he urged.
