Ralph Higgs Criticizes Government’s Budget Priorities
Ralph Higgs, an All-Island candidate for the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM), has strongly criticized the current government’s boasting about the “Biggest Budgets,” stating that these budgets have not significantly improved the lives of the majority of Turks and Caicos Island (TCI) citizens.
Higgs pointed out a range of areas that have deteriorated over the last three years, despite the historic budgets. He emphasized that the current government has not prioritized nation-building to the extent of the previous PDM administration, which achieved significant developments, including infrastructure improvements and new projects.
Highlighting specific achievements under the former administration, Higgs mentioned road paving, school block construction, and environmental initiatives such as removing wrecked boats from Governor’s Beach.
He also underscored infrastructure developments in Salt Cay and South Caicos, including airport terminal construction and office expansions, which were initiated under the former administration.
Higgs criticized the Minister of Finance, questioning their effectiveness in utilizing public funds to develop communities. He referred to the minister as the “Do-Nothing Minister of Finance” and challenged their track record of accomplishments over nearly four decades in public life.
Higgs concluded by questioning the minister’s ability to achieve significant progress in the twilight of their political career, given their past performance.
