Sargassum Seaweed in Health Sector, Could foster Bring New Pharmaceuticals

#Sargassum#Health, March 26, 2024 – Sargassum seaweed, a common phenomena affecting Caribbean oceans, could potentially bring significant change to the health industry as it has high levels of antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents and antiviral properties which can help develop new pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. This was highlighted by Scientific Vice Director of the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICIMAR) of the Cuban Environment Agency, Idania Rodeiro Guerra, in a keynote lecture on plants and seaweed, delivered at the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC). These findings were published in an acclaimed scientific journal, that is the Journal of Applied Phycology, which was published by German British Academy Publishing Company, Springer Nature. Phycology is the study of Algae.
