Former House Speaker Dwayne Taylor Slams Government’s Passivity Over Fortis TCI Rate Hike Proposal
Former House Speaker, Hon. Dwayne Taylor, launched a scathing critique of the government’s handling of Fortis TCI’s recent application for a 6% increase in electricity rates. In a fiery statement, Mr. Taylor accused the government of failing to prioritize the interests of TCIslanders in the face of corporate greed.

Describing the situation as “daunting, difficult, and challenging,” Mr. Taylor slammed the Minister of Public Safety and Utilities for what he perceived as a lackluster response to the rate hike proposal. He accused the government of “throwing their hands up in the air” and surrendering to Fortis TCI’s demands without putting up a fight.

Mr. Taylor questioned the Minister’s commitment to the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands, accusing him of “playing games” and using “reverse psychology” to manipulate public opinion. He called on the government to “man up” and stand firm against Fortis TCI’s attempts to exploit the people for profit.

Highlighting the potential economic repercussions of the rate hike, Mr. Taylor warned of its impact on struggling families and local businesses. He criticized the government for its failure to explore alternative solutions and called for stronger representation to challenge Fortis TCI’s dominance in the energy sector.

Mr. Taylor’s impassioned plea for action has reignited the debate over Fortis TCI’s rate hike bid, with many TCIslanders expressing support for his stance. As the deadline for review looms, all eyes are on the government to see if they will heed Mr. Taylor’s call to defend the interests of the people.

The government’s response to Mr. Taylor’s criticism remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: the battle over Fortis TCI’s rate hike is far from over, and the stakes for TCIslanders have never been higher.
