#TurksandCaicos, December 29, 2023 – The December 26 celebration of Maskanoo, the Turks and Caicos’ annual Boxing Day festival on the streets of Grace Bay, was a resounding success this year.
Wilkie Arthur, Court Correspondent was at the event and explained that there was significant support and
excitement.
“Maskanoo was beautiful, the people attended in large numbers. The support was great, people were spending money, little children were out and it was wonderful. People love it,” Arthur reported.
Arthur also said several attendees had flown in specifically for the event. It was the second hosting since Covid-19.
“A lot of visitors whom I spoke to personally who had just visited just for that occasion and said they are leaving the following day. They came down just for Maskanoo and so it was beautiful.”
The inaugural modern day Maskanoo parade started in 2011; however the history of the holiday tradition dates back to the 19th century and how slaves in the Turks and Caicos celebrated Christmastime.
