#TurksandCaicosIslands, October 7, 2023 – The Office of the Deputy Governor is pleased to announce Ms. Kissyah Gardiner’s appointment to the Social Worker post in the Social Development Department in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Public Safety, Utilities and Transportation.
Ms Gardiner is a product of the Turks & Caicos Islands Community College, obtaining an Associate Degree in Social Work (2017) and a Bachelor of Science in Social Work (2020). She is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Mental Health Wellbeing from the University of Wolverhampton, United Kingdom, via online learning.
Ms Gardiner’s previous appointments include Assistant Land Registration Officer in the Land Registry (2017) and Probation Officer in the Probation and Rehabilitation Unit (2020). Her specialized training includes Offender Management Practices Training in Atlanta, Georgia (2022), funded by the Public Service Professional Development Fund.
Commenting on her appointment, Ms Gardiner stated: “I am most delighted to be appointed to the post of Social Worker within the Department of Social Development.
I am committed to serving vulnerable populations, especially children who need care and protection, as a Foster Care Social Worker. Therefore, I will be keen to exercise professional judgment and best practices.
Deputy Governor and Head of the Public Service, Her Excellency Anya Williams, in commenting on Ms Gardiner’s appointment, stated:
“I am pleased to congratulate Ms. Gardiner on her appointment as a Social Worker in the Social Development Department.
I want to commend her for pursuing tertiary studies in Social Work at the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College, a free opportunity that I encourage others to avail themselves of as there is a critical need for additional Social Workers in the Turks and Caicos Islands. A noble profession which I encourage others to pursue. I express profound thanks to Ms Gardiner for her previous service as a Probation Officer, which can often be challenging, and I wish her well in her new role as a Social Worker.”
