The National Security Council (NSC) of the Turks and Caicos Islands convened an emergency meeting on Sunday, January 19, 2025, following the tragic shooting at the Aziza Night Club on Saturday night, which claimed the lives of an Illinois deputy and a local taxi operator.

The incident occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m., as patrons dined at a nearby exclusive restaurant, adding to the shock and concern in the community.

Acting Commissioner of Police Rodney Adams and other Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) officials briefed NSC members on the investigation and immediate response. Measures include the reactivation of Operation Mightier, a joint tactical initiative between the Police and Regiment. Enhanced law enforcement presence is planned across communities, supported by additional resources both on land and at sea. The RTCIPF is also expediting the deployment of experienced armed officers from regional partners.

The meeting, co-chaired by Her Excellency Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam and Hon. Premier Charles Washington Misick, underscored a strong commitment to addressing the escalating violent crime in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Attendees included senior government officials, law enforcement leaders, and security advisors.

“The NSC has activated an action plan for the RTCIPF, ensuring decisive measures are taken to combat violent crime,” said a statement issued after the meeting. Support for the victims’ families has also been confirmed.

Authorities emphasized the importance of community cooperation in the investigation, urging anyone with information to come forward. Enhanced operations will remain in effect as the government works to restore safety and security in the region.

Shamone Duncan 50, of the Cook Country Sherrif and Dario Stubbs 30, local taxi operator were killed and another individual hospitalised during the incident. The police said the two were not the intended targets of the gun attack.
